About Mr Liu Noodle House

Nestled in the heart of Oakland at 358 11th Street, Mr Liu Noodle House brings the fiery spirit of Chongqing cuisine to California with its signature Xiao Mian—a dish that embodies the bold flavors and culinary traditions of Sichuan province. Specializing in handcrafted noodles served in aromatic, spice-laden broths, this restaurant has quickly become a destination for those seeking authentic Chinese flavors, from the numbing heat of Sichuan peppercorns to the complex layering of chili oils and fermented ingredients. Every bowl tells a story of craftsmanship, with noodles that strike the perfect balance between chewiness and tenderness, paired with toppings like minced pork, crushed peanuts, and fresh scallions that add texture and depth to each bite.

The essence of Chongqing Xiao Mian lies in its broth, and Mr Liu Noodle House masters this art with a base that simmers for hours, blending bone-in meats, dried chilies, and a medley of spices to create a rich, umami-packed foundation. Diners can expect a symphony of flavors—spicy, savory, and slightly sweet—with customizable heat levels to suit both adventurous eaters and those new to Sichuan cuisine. Standout dishes include the Special Beef Noodle Soup, where tender slices of beef melt into the broth, and the Pickled Pepper Beef Noodle Soup, which balances tangy pickled peppers with a slow-building heat. For those seeking variety, the menu extends beyond noodles to include handmade dumplings, such as the Chengdu Special Dumplings, praised for their delicate wrappers and savory fillings.

What sets Mr Liu Noodle House apart is its commitment to authenticity. The kitchen avoids shortcuts, preparing noodles and dumplings in-house daily, ensuring freshness and quality. This dedication resonates with patrons, including expatriates and travelers who describe the food as a nostalgic taste of home, with one reviewer noting it “transported them back to China.” The restaurant’s ambiance complements its culinary ethos: a cozy, unpretentious space where the focus remains squarely on the food. Service is warm and attentive, with staff often sharing insights about the dishes, such as the origin of Chongqing’s street-food culture or the significance of specific spices.

Beyond its core offerings, the menu features smaller plates that highlight regional ingredients, like cucumber tossed in garlic sauce—a refreshing contrast to the heat of the noodles—and stir-fried green beans with preserved vegetables. These sides not only round out the meal but also showcase the versatility of Sichuan cooking. The restaurant’s popularity has grown through word of mouth, with diners frequently returning to explore new dishes or revisit favorites, often citing the consistency and depth of flavor as key draws.

Mr Liu Noodle House operates with a clear mission: to preserve the authenticity of Chongqing’s culinary heritage while making it accessible to a diverse audience. Whether you’re a noodle aficionado or a curious first-timer, the experience is designed to be both immersive and satisfying. Located just steps from downtown Oakland’s bustling streets, it offers a culinary escape where every dish reflects the passion and precision of its creators. From the first slurp of broth to the last bite of handmade dumplings, the restaurant invites guests to savor the vibrant, unapologetic flavors that define Sichuan cuisine—one bowl at a time.

Practical details like online ordering through DoorDash and Grubhub make it easy to enjoy these flavors at home, though the in-person experience, complete with the aroma of simmering broths and the sight of noodles being pulled fresh, adds an irreplaceable dimension. With a phone number (+1 510-424-6988) readily available for inquiries, Mr Liu Noodle House bridges tradition and convenience, ensuring that the essence of Chongqing’s street food thrives in Oakland’s dynamic food scene.

Coming from the San Gabriel Valley, which has plenty of Sichuan food, I’m always on the hunt for good Sichuan places in East Bay. Of which, there aren’t that many. I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Mr. Liu Noodle House. The noodles in the Beef Noodle Soup were bouncy, and the broth was wonderfully fragrant and savory. It had just the right amount of flavor and salt. Their chengdu dumplings are delicious as well. Nice homemade wrappers with a chew to them, in a fragrant balanced chili oil. Just the right amount of Sichuan peppercorn. The blistered green beans had a nice wok hei to them, and packed a salty punch from the pickled vegetable (“sui mi ya cai”) Service was lovely. The boss lady 老闆娘 refilled our water multiple times.

My go to combination is the chongqing style special noodles and the chengdu special dumpling. Highly recommended if you can eat spicy. A clean environment and the staff is friendly. My only wish is if they would serve hot tea in non-plastic cups.

It was my first time at Mr. Liu noodle house and I was searching for some truly authentic Chinese noodles in Oakland. I found this place and ordered their beef brisket noodles (原汤牛腩面), and the flavors instantly transported me back to China! I would highly recommend coming here. My server was also really kind and helpful, and I liked the cozy interior. If I had any complaints, the prices might be a little high but hey what can you do about the price of food these days.

This noodle spot is truly authentic! The flavors are perfectly balanced—not overly salty like many fast-food places—making it really enjoyable to eat. The shredded chicken in chili oil is especially impressive, with rich, layered flavors that are fragrant without being greasy. Definitely a hidden gem in the area. I’ll be coming back often and recommending it to friends!

the wontons were super delicious and filled with a really good amount of meat. the spicy oil they used tasted amazing and added a lot of flavor. the noodles were really good too. my only complaint is they were extremely greasy, but that might just be how the dish is cooked. overall still very tasty.
